Former Persimmon boss Jeff Fairburn will give some of his £82m bonus to charity, it has emerged

Former Persimmon boss Jeff Fairburn has set up a US-style fund to give money to charity, it has emerged.

In 2018, amid an outcry over his £82million bonus from the housebuilder, the 53-year-old pledged to give away a ‘substantial’ portion of his windfall. 

But Fairburn has faced questions over the promise, after the Charity Commission said nothing had been registered in his name.

Yesterday he revealed he is using a so-called ‘donor advised fund’, a type of philanthropic fund common in the US, whose activities can be kept private.

They also allow donors to claim certain tax reliefs.
