Living on the edge: Tourist poses on the edge of 3,000ft-drop overlooking Rio de Janeiro in footage that will give you vertigo!

  • An anonymous risk-taker posed at the edge of a 3,000ft-high mountain peak
  • The woman held her hands in the air while on a crag overlooking Rio De Janeiro
  • Video shows her inching closer to the edge before panning out to show the city

A risk-taker posed just inches from the edge of a 3,000ft drop in an effort to get the perfect social media photograph in this fear-defying clip.

The anonymous woman celebrated the end of her two-and-a-half-hour hike up Pedra da Gávea, near Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, with the perfect Instagram shot.

At the top of the mountain, on a crag that overlooks the city thousands of feet below, the woman pulled herself closer to the edge before lifting up both arms in jubilation.

Behind her the sea is a crystal clear blue, the beach is a white strip, and below her the trees are so far away they look like specks.

The video pans out from the woman to show the city far down below, with its high-rise buildings and pristine green gardens.

The short clip quickly gained 114,000 likes on social media, but many deemed the woman reckless.

One said: ‘Really. Even if they don’t die and get that “cool shot”, I still find the picture lame because they clearly risked their life (and possibly the lives of others on the ground below) to get it.

‘It’s not worth it and the picture just makes me think that you’re a vain idiot.’

Another added: ‘Was anyone else kinda really hoping that she accidentally slid off? I mean that would have been hilarious.’

Pedra da Gávea is well-known for its Instagram-worthy scenery, as the edge of the mountain overlooks the city below.

And this is not the first time tourists have taken risky photographs from its peak.

One fitness fanatic was quickly caught out when he told his Instagram followers he was dangling from a dangerous height – when he was really inches from the ground.

Brazilian bodybuilder Luis Fernando Candela claimed a photograph of himself dangling from a crag by his feet was his ‘most dangerous stunt yet’.

But the photograph was only a clever trick, as it cropped out of frame the grass inches below him.

He said: ‘My girlfriend was terrified but I was determined to get the photo.

‘You’ve got to know what you’re doing though because if you fall you’ve had it – the drop is too much.

‘I’ve been doing it for years now and love it – you only get one life so you have to live it, there’s no fun in being boring.

‘The experience was amazing – terrifying, but amazing.’

It is unknown whether this woman’s video is equally as misleading, but there is nothing to suggest it is not genuine.
