  • Miss Randall filmed the moment he slipped and fell backwards into the water

A dog walker fell backwards into freezing cold water when his plan to impress his girlfriend by leaping over a stream abruptly backfired.

Pete Pritchard, 29, told his partner Drew Randall, 26, he would be able to successfully jump over a brook during a walk through the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire on February 16.

Miss Randall guessed something could go wrong and pulled out her camera to capture the moment Mr Pritchard and their spaniels Maddie, six, and Lexi, five, ran towards the water.

As Mr Pritchard made to leap off one bank his foot slipped, sending him crashing into the fast-flowing water below.

The building company owner landed on his back and quickly jumped up before standing and looking at Miss Randall in shock as water dripped off his soaked clothes.

The spaniels both ran away from the bank in fright, before leaping across the water to check Mr Pritchard was alright.

Beautician Miss Randall was unable to control her laughter as she held onto their third dog Foxy, a two-year-old chihuahua.

Mr Pritchard managed to scramble onto the bank on the other side of the stream, where he said ‘it’s a good job my phone’s waterproof’.

Miss Randall said: ‘I completely forgot to see if he was okay and instead just laughed so hard I cried.

‘I couldn’t look him in the face for the next two hours without completely cracking up. But neither could he.

‘Pete has an amazing gift to come out okay when most people would have broken a bone.

‘He’s also loving the attention he’s getting.’

‘Pete immediately laughed it off but was absolutely frozen bless him,’ she added.

‘The water was apparently very cold as he was ever so slightly blue looking. Luckily we were very close to the van so he got the heaters on and was fine.

‘I made sure he got straight in a hot shower when he got home.

‘It did send us into a fit of giggle again when after peeling off the last of his wet clothes lots of small pebbles fell out.’
