All eyes were on Janelle Monae, as she stepped on the NAACP Image Awards red carpet donning a midriff-baring Balmain gown in Los Angeles on Saturday. 

The 34-year-old Make Me Feel songstress made a memorable appearance rocking a black long sleeve top and vibrant orange skirt, which emphasized her trim waist.   

The Harriet actress, who was nominated for her supporting role, even paired the striking ensemble with some edgy sliver earrings and a perfectly braided up-do.

‘Oh my goodness, I just feel so thankful to be in a room with so many talented black people,’ the performer said in a video on her Instagram Story. 

The singer reposted the videos from the NAACP Image Awards account, while struggling to pinpoint just who she was looking most forward to seeing. 

When asked about her nomination she said: ‘I feel thankful, humble and inspired. I feel loved. This is not my first nomination, I think on the film side, maybe, but the NAACP has always supported me.’

In addition to a handful of rings, the star finished off her look with layered chokers and appeared relaxed in her flowing frock. 

Despite losing her category to Little’s Marsai Martin, the bombshell looked thrilled to present entertainer of the year to the night’s big winner Lizzo. 

Once the Truth Hurts singer hit the stage, the pair embraced and shared a kiss, before Lizzo yelled into her mike, ‘Hello beautiful black people!’

The show, which aimed to highlight the achievements of actors and musicians of color, awarded the President’s Award to Rihanna. 

‘We can only fix this world together, we can’t do it divided,’ the Umbrella singer said to roaring applause. ‘I can’t emphasize that enough, we can’t let the de-sensitivity seep in.’

Other honorees included Oscar contender Cynthia Erivo, who also starred in the Harriet Tubman biopic, Harriet, Eddie Murphy for his film Dolemite is My Name and Lupita Nyong’o, who starred in Us.
