Man admits killing his wife, 32, and an elderly woman, 76, after they were found dead in the street just days before Christmas – but denies murder

A man has admitted killing his wife and an elderly woman after they were found lying dead in the street just three days before Christmas.

Amy Appleton, 32, a much-loved teacher, died of head injuries after she was brutally attacked outside her suburban home in Crawley, West Sussex.

Sandy Seagrave, 76, who lived close by and was described as a ‘feisty’ and ‘brave’ lady, was also killed on December 22 – just three days before Christmas.

Amy Appleton, 32, and Sandy Seagrave, 76, were killed in Crawley Down, West Sussex, in an attack that left the close community shocked and saddened. Her husband Daniel Appleton, 37, is charged with their murders

Both women had suffered catastrophic head injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Today Daniel Appleton, Amy’s husband, appeared in Lewes Crown Court to charged with two counts of murder.

Dressed in a short-sleeved black polo shirt he admitted killing both women but denied murdering them.
