Mariah Carey helps daughter Monroe, eight, with high note challenge in Singin’ In The Rain inspired Tik Tok

Mariah Carey is always there to help her children out.

When her eight-year-old daughter Monroe decided to do the high note challenge on Tik Tok, the 49-year-old singer was there to assist.

In a sweet video reminiscent of Singin’ In The Rain, Monroe seemed to be singing a piercing high melisma – till it was revealed she was actually lip syncing to Mariah.

As Monroe mimed, the camera panned off to the side to reveal Mariah in a doorway doing all the actual singing herself.

Although the clip was taped in a casual home setting, the pop diva was decked out in a floor-length sequined bias cut gown.

‘Mommy!’ Monroe protested, only for Mariah to reply in exasperation: ‘What? You said do the nigh notes!’

The singer known to fans as ‘Mimi’ tweeted the Tik Tok video and linked to a fan who posted a clip of her singing Emotions on MTV Unplugged in 1992.

The All I Want For Christmas Is You singer is famous for her five-octave vocal range and its dizzying high whistle register.

Mariah, whose highest recorded note was a G7 on her 1991 song Emotions, spoke to Pitchfork in 2018 about reaching that register.

‘When it’s at its best, it doesn’t hurt. There’s two different placements of that part of my voice. There’s the Vision Of Love kind of whistle voice and then there’s Emotions, with those high parts at the end,’ she explained.

‘I remember [producer] David Cole, who passed away. He was one of the only people I used to have in the studio when I would sing because I respected him as a singer. He would push me in different areas where he could actually sing it to me and I would be like: “Oh, this is cool. I like that,”‘ she remembered.

‘If you listen to the song Emotions, that was him going: “You can do that. Try this.” Half the time, I would lose my voice afterwards because he would just push me.’

Mariah has frequently brought her children onstage with her during concerts for a rendition of her 1995 song Always Be My Baby.
