Charlotte Gainsbourg sports a leg cast and crutches on the red carpet at 45th César Awards

Charlotte Gainsbourg sported a leg cast and crutches as she took to the red carpet at the 45th César Awards in Paris on Friday.

The actress and singer, 48, looked in good spirits as she attended the prestigious French film awards after suffering a mystery injury.

Charlotte smiled as she leaned on the crutches and showed off her leg cast on her right limb, before lying down on the red carpet and resting. 

The star didn’t let her injury stop the glamour as she donned a shimmering black blouse, tie and velvet blazer for her night out.

She paired this with a pair of black hotpants and one black and gold stiletto.

The star wore her tresses in soft waves while her pretty features were enhanced with a radiant palette of make-up.   

Charlotte became a scandalous talking point as a preteen for releasing a controversial duet with her father Serge.

‘Lemon Incest’ caused uproar in France and grabbed headlines in other parts of the world not just for its lyrics but its shocking video.

The complaints only resulted in more sales for Serge’s album.

Serge Gainsbourg courted controversy throughout most of his career but is most well known for his notorious song Je T’aime … Moi Non Plus.

It brought worldwide outrage when released in 1969 and has generally become known as the song with the organs and a woman having an orgasm. The woman moaning on the track is Charlotte’s mother Jane Birkin.

Gainsbourg’s most successful song by far, Je T’aime … Moi Non Plus was number one throughout Europe and the first UK number one to be sung in another language.

Despite selling millions, it was deemed too raunchy for radio and received a BBC ban for its explicit content, also making it the first UK number one to be banned by the BBC.

Other controversial moments for Serge included telling Whitney Houston he wanted ‘to f**k her’ on French prime time TV, writing suggestive songs for 18-year-old female singers, and dating the already married Brigitte Bardot.

He died in 1991 from a heart attack, age 62, at his home in Rue de Verneuil. He had suffered his first heart attack at 45 but decided the healthy lifestyle wasn’t for him and continued to drink and smoke as he liked.

Charlotte’s mother Jane Birkin was described as the English Rose he was guilty of ‘enticing’ and entrapping. The pair met on the set of 1969 film Slogan and believing Gainsbourg to hate her, Birkin invited him to dinner where he says he subsequently fell in love with her, despite being 18 years her senior.

In 1984, French high-fashion manufacturer Hermes created the Birkin bag in her honor, which has gone on to become a status symbol with prices ranging from $10,000 to $500,000.

Birkin previously claimed she was only famous because Gainsbourg featured her moaning on Je T’aime … Moi Non Plus.
