Magda Szubanski gets THIRTY-ONE Botox injections in her forehead every three months – as she says it helps with a very common medical condition
Magda Szubanski spoke candidly about her health in the March issue of The Australian Women’s Weekly.
The 58-year-old comedian revealed that she gets 31 Botox injections in her forehead every three months to treat post-menopausal migraines caused by stress.
‘It’s full on, but it’s really helped,’ said Magda, who has faced a challenging few years dealing with the death of her mother and campaigning for marriage equality

Magda was diagnosed with stress-induced migraines after a doctor initially feared she’d had a stroke.
‘It was like I’d run out of petrol. The doctor ran out of the room, called the ambulance and I burst into tears. I thought I’d had a stroke,’ she said.
Alongside regular Botox treatments, Magda said that having ‘truly great and loyal’ friends helps with her migraines.

According to the Harvard Medical School, Botox or botulinum toxin is used to treat chronic migraines, muscle spasms, excessive sweating, some eye conditions and an overactive bladder.
It works for migraines by injecting Botox into the nerves, ‘where it may modify the release of neurotransmitters, chemicals that carry signals between brain cells’.
Botox is most commonly used, however, to reduce wrinkles.
Magda’s mother, Margaret Szubanski, died in September 2017 at the age of 92.
A month earlier, Magda had revealed in an emotional Instagram post that her mother was ‘fading’.
‘Her voice has faded to less than a whisper. Her thoughts [are] often an incoherent jumble of past and present, real and imagined,’ she wrote.
‘Now even her sense of humour is fading. I think maybe that is the thing I find hardest to bear. What Bette Davis said is so true – “Old age ain’t no place for sissies”.’
