James Cracknell has revealed he has ‘always been a bad dancer’, so much so that he once managed to knock over Kate Middleton during a wedding dance.

The olympic rower, 47, who was the first to be voted off last year’s Strictly Come Dancing, recalled an unfortunate incident which happened during a friend’s wedding one year.

The sportsman had joined pal Ben Fogle in attending the wildlife conservationist’s sister-in-law Chiara Hunt’s wedding.

It was there that he was introduced to Prince William, 37, and Kate Middleton, 38, by Marina Fogle’s sister Olivia Hunt, who had previously dated the royal at St Andrews University.

Kate playfully invited James for a dance, which is when disaster struck.

James told Ok! Magazine: ‘Years ago Ben Fogle and I went to his sister-in-law’s wedding.

‘Ben’s other sister-in-law went out with Prince William and so he and Kate were there. Kate was like “do you want to go for a dance?”.

‘I trod on her toe and managed to knock her over and William said: ” I think you may have just knocked the future queen over.

‘I said “I told her I couldn’t dance. It’s her fault”‘.

The father-of-three subsequently admitted his injury made it harder for him to remember his dance steps.

In 2010, James was struck from behind by a lorry while cycling in Arizona while making a documentary for the Discovery Channel.

The rowing champion, who split from his wife Bev Turner last year and is now dating American financier Jordan Connell, developed epilepsy in 2010 after he was hit by a lorry while cycling across America.
