Married At First Sight’s Michael Goonan gives a VERY awkward response when asked whether he loves Stacey Hampton on Today Extra

Married At First Sight’s Michael Goonan has given an excruciatingly awkward response when quizzed on his feeling towards ex-‘wife’ Stacey Hampton.

Appearing on Today Extra this Monday, the Adelaide businessman, 28, discussed his ‘juvenile’ behavior on the show, admitting he regretted ruining his relationship with the single mother.

‘You said you are in love with her’, Today Extra host Belinda Russell interjected.

Suddenly looking sheepish, Michael went silent and began nodding slowly.

He then pulled several pained expressions while mouthing unintelligibly to someone off-camera.

Today Extra’s David Campbell noticed the sudden awkwardness, remarking: ‘Yeah, you did! Just the nod.’

Imitating Michael, David joked: ‘I did say that didn’t I? That happened on TV.’

Indeed, Michael famously told Stacey he’d ‘loved her since the honeymoon’ just moments after his cheating scandal with Hayley Vernon was laid bare at a dinner party.

‘The thought of losing you is crippling,’ Michael told the blonde after being hung out to dry by the rest of the participants.

‘I haven’t told you this but, I’ve loved you since the honeymoon. I think the world of you,’ he said.

Meanwhile, on Sunday’s episode, Stacey broke down in tears after being forced to remain in the experiment after Michael elected to stay for another week.

Michael attempted to make amends with his ‘wife’, pleading: ‘I am sorry for what I’ve done and I’m sorry that I’ve betrayed your trust. I’m going to make it up to you anyway that I can this week.’

Married At First Sight returns Monday at 7.30pm on Nine.
