She’s off! Coronation Street bid a fond farewell to Bethany Platt on Wednesday night, after she ended her relationship with Daniel Osborne following his disastrous proposal

As a new day dawned on Weatherfield, Bethany (played by Lucy Fallon) remained conflicted about whether to move to London with Daniel and his son Bertie, as she feared that he was still grieving for Sinead, who died of cervical cancer in October.

While she continued to lament the decision, Daniel (Rob Mallard) drowned his sorrows with nephew Adam in the Rovers Return, and soon made the bombshell decision to prove his love for Bethany by popping the question.

But his plan backfired as he got down on one knee outside Bethany’s window, and chose to propose with Sinead’s ring.

Oh dear! In a toe-curling scene, Daniel accidentally said the name of his late wife Sinead when he popped the question, affirming to Bethany that their relationship was over

Things went from bad to even worse when he asked Sinead to marry him instead of Bethany, leaving her running back into the house in floods of tears.

Fans were quick to compare the moment to the iconic Friends scene, when Ross Gellar said the name of his ex Rachel Green as he stood at the altar ready to marry Emily Waltham.

One wrote: ‘Did Daniel just have a ‘Ross’ moment??’ and another added: ‘That was even worse than the Friends scene.’

A third also tweeted: ‘Daniel saying his ex’s name when proposing… straight out of Friends with Ross saying Rachel at his wedding to Emily #Corrie.’

The proposal seemed to be the final straw for Bethany, who then told Daniel that she would be leaving for London alone as she knew she couldn’t be a stand-in for his late wife.

Daniel was devastated by her decision to end their relationship and begged her for another chance, even after dropping Sinead’s ring which led to the piece being run over by a car.

In emotional scenes, Bethany then said goodbye to her family which included a sweet farewell to her friend Craig Tinker, who had been a huge support during her horrific grooming ordeal years earlier.
