Amazing ice sculptures that resemble frozen waves have formed on the surfaces of lakes in Colorado’s Rocky Mountain Park.
The near-perfect sculptures spotted at the park’s Dream Lake, located some 9,905ft above sea level, are not caused by the waters freezing.
In fact, water starts to turn into a slush called frazil before it freezes into ice.

Gross said he was quick to shoot the images when he came across the frozen lake in February, because the frozen ‘surface screamed opportunity and chance, as any unique sight in nature is sure to be short-lived’
Instead, a weather phenomenon in Colorado is responsible for the stunning natural beauty captured in photos taken by vacationers and outdoor lovers.
Meteorologists say snow likely drifted across the frozen lake, melted in the sun and refroze into the stunning sculptures.
