Plate of Origin could soon start filming as early as next week

Channel Seven to begin filming embattled show Plate of Origin ‘as early as next week’ – following several ‘setbacks’ including axed episodes and THAT unfortunate acronym

Channel Seven will reportedly kick off it’s new cooking show Plate of Origin as early as next week.

According to TV Tonight, the network has been running several sponsored ads on Facebook calling for audience members to attend the show’s filming next Sunday.

Filming for the series would mark a turning point for the program, as production has reportedly suffered a series of setbacks in recent months.

TV Blackbox reported earlier this month that the show will have a shorter season than expected, with the episode run cut by 10 to 12 shows.

The initial order was for 32 episodes, the website alleges, but will be slashed to around 20 episodes.

Meanwhile, The Australian reported in February that ‘a full scale review’ of the show may be underway, with producers reportedly hoping to make it ‘more like MasterChef than MKR’.

The move may be a response to the disastrous ratings of My Kitchen Rules this year, which has hit an all-time viewership low.

In January, TV Tonight also claimed two of the show’s hosts, former MasterChef judges Matt Preston and Gary Mehigan, hit a contractual snag.

‘For contractual reasons, Seven is now unable to publicly associate Matt Preston and Gary Mehigan with the new show,’ the industry website stated.

Indeed, Matt and Gary have not been named or pictured in Seven’s online casting call for Plate of Origin, instead referred to as ‘two of the worlds biggest food superstars.’

Reports claim network bosses were previously also second-guessing the unfortunate acronym for the TV show – ‘POO’.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Seven for comment.
