‘Britain’s smallest woman’, 21, who has 700K followers says fashion industry ignores her

A YouTuber who has an impressive 700,000 YouTube follower has accused the fashion industry of never inviting her to events because of the way she looks.

Georgia Rankin, 21, has a form of skeletal dysplasia which caused her bones to fuse together when she was a toddler, stopping her from growing.

Standing at 2ft 7 inches tall, Rankin appeared on This Morning today, four years after the show propelled her to social media stardom.

Now posting under the YouTube name MakeupJunkieG, Rankin has amassed a huge following with her make-up and beauty tutorials, but says the fashion industry still never asks her to get involved with campaigns or even invites her to events.

The 21-year-old has launched a new campaign to put pressure on fashion brands to include more diverse models

The 21-year-old, who says she was given a huge confidence boost when her followers first began to grow, revealed that while brands will happily give her products to review, she never gets invited anywhere, a reflection, she thinks, on the lack of diversity in the industry.

She told This Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby about her new campaign to make the industry more aware of ‘realistic people’, saying: ‘It doesn’t matter about your followers, but it does matter about your appearance.

‘It’s quite hard to see a good diverse mix of people in campaigns, it’s still really rare.’

Rankin continued: ‘I get sent the products but I don’t get the invitations. I’m still trying to push for it.

‘I promote products on my Instagram, but other models get invited to big events. The generations beneath me are going to grow up on social media, and they’re not seeing realistic people. It can affect how you feel, it’s really sad.’

She also lifted the lid on what it was like to strip off for her underwear for her first photo shoot.

Rankin revealed: ‘I had no idea! I was thinking that my first shoot would be really chilled, I’d be fully clothed – that’s scary enough!’

However, she said disrobing actually empowered her and she wouldn’t rule out doing it again, saying: ‘It did something to me, any photoshoot now, that’s fine!’

Her first This Morning appearance in 2014

And her second in 2016, which saw her follower numbers soar

In 2014 and 2016 she appeared on This Morning and proved a huge hit with Holly and Phillip

She wasn’t able to keep her food down and lost weight rapidly.

Rankin was diagnosed with a life-threatening bowel condition called tufting enteropathy by experts at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Warrington, Cheshire, where she lives with her parents.

She was fed through a tube for the first ten years of her life and suffered from constant infections and septicaemia.

Doctors told her parents she may not make it – but she battled on.

When Andrea and Simon realised that their daughter was smaller than her primary school friends they took her back to the hospital.

There they learned the devastating truth: that she suffered from osteoporosis, an inherent bone weakness, and would never grow again. #

In 2014 and 2016 she appeared on This Morning, the latter seeing her social media career receive a huge boost, as viewers warmed to her bubbly personality.
