Director Lin-Manuel Miranda shares a laugh with his leading man, Andrew Garfield, on the New York City set of Tick, Tick… Boom.

The 40-year-old director was seen laughing it up with his 36-year-old leading man on the set of the autobiographical musical.

The film is based on the autobiographical musical of the same by Rent playwright Jonathan Larson, who Garfield is portraying.

Miranda was spotted bundled up in a grey hooded coat with a red and blue scarf wrapped around his neck.

He also wore a black cap over his head to keep warm plus dark blue jeans and black sneakers.

Tick, Tick… Boom marks Miranda’s major studio directorial debut, based on Larson’s book which was adapted by Steven Levenson (Fosse/Verdon).

Garfield was spotted wearing a brown leather coat over a grey striped dress shirt with a long green scarf wrapped around his neck to keep warm.

He had a black backpack strapped to his back with faded black jeans and dark green Converse All-Star shoes.

Production began on Tick, Tick… Boom in February, with Netflix acquiring the film in June 2019, though there are no plans for its release quite yet.

Larson originally wrote the musical and performed it as a solo piece in 1990, six years before his musical Rent would become a Broadway sensation, following an aspiring composer named Jon who worries he made a mistake by going into the performing arts.

Larson passed away suddenly at the age of 35, on the night of Rent’s first Off-Broadway preview performance from an aortic dissection caused from undiagnosed Marfan syndrome.

After Larson’s death, playwright David Auburn re-configured it into a three-act play that premiered Off-Broadway in 2001.

The film adaptation also stars Alexandra Shipp, Bradley Whitford, Judith Light and Vanessa Hudgens.

Miranda’s hit musical In the Heights is being adapted for the big screen, hitting theaters June 26, 2020.

His Broadway breakthrough smash hit Hamilton will also be coming to the big screen, with a filmed version of a stage production featuring the original cast, hitting theaters October 15, 2021.
