Lizzo posts a 30 minute video in which she plays the flute and guides a ‘mass meditation’

She was supposed to be playing the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo this Friday, but that event has of course been cancelled like so many others.

Instead, Grammy-winning artist Lizzo broadcasted on Instagram Live from her home in Los Angeles, California on Friday morning, in an almost thirty minute-long video during which she played the flute, talked about the current worldwide situation and the fear it’s causing, and offered a guided meditation in the spirit of healing.

The Detroit, Michigan-born songstress, 31, appeared in front of the entryway to her patio, in a brown knit sweater and white patterned scoop neck tee, her shorter hair held back and up with a fabric hair tie.

In the foreground, the Because I Love You songbird had an array of crystals laid out on a tray, palo santo wood sticks, as well as her flute and two different hand sanitizers (most probably a more holistic oil-based concoction, and a more industrial-grade version).

She captioned the video with ‘Because I Love You

A meditation and mantra to promote healing during this global crisis. Use at your own pace. Love you!’

At the start of the clip, Lizzo is seen playing her black flute, blending various melodies including the standard classic Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

Then, the singer catches her viewers and followers up on recent goings-on, most notably how sad she was to learn that the Rodeo event in Texas where she was to perform had been cancelled.

After that, Lizzo identified and acknowledged the ‘global crisis that we’re all experiencing together,’ and that ‘it’s a scary time for a lot of people,’ but she then made the distinction between the ‘fear and helplessness’ and the disease itself.

‘There is the disease, and then there is the fear of the disease,’ Lizzo observed, pointing out that the fear could spread even quicker than the disease itself.

She then mentioned how she intended to talk to her team about ways in which she could be helpful on the ground, bringing up the fact that widespread school cancellations would effect impoverished and at-risk youth who depend on school lunches.

She later urged viewers to donate to programs who would help meet that growing need.

Eventually, Lizzo transitioned toward a guided meditation, saying that ‘we’ll always have togetherness.’

Using deep breathing and more music, she walked viewers through the mediation, making sure to mention that people should feel free to come and go as they please and not feel like they must stay for the whole duration.

Toward the end of the snippet, Lizzo closed with a wish for everyone to ‘be healthy, be safe, be vigilant… but don’t be afraid.’

As she said this, she applied both kinds of hand sanitizers.

‘We’re not going to let fear be the next pandemic,’ she said in closing.
