Pregnant Katy Perry flees Australia after ‘coronavirus scare’

Katy Perry has fled Australia after spending 24 hours holed up in her Sydney hotel due to a coronavirus scare among staff at her record label.

The American singer, 35, had spent a day ‘in lockdown’ at the Park Hyatt before taking her scheduled flight out of Sydney Airport.

Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, who both tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday, had stayed at the same hotel just days ago.

It’s believed Katy is returning to the United States, where she will reunite with her fiancé, Orlando Bloom, with whom she is expecting her first child.

Katy covered her face and stomach with a pillow as she walked through the international departures terminal surrounded by her entourage.

The Roar hitmaker dressed casually for her flight in grey trackpants, a matching hoodie and Adidas sneakers, and concealed her gaze behind sunglasses.

She cancelled all of her press interviews on Thursday as a safety precaution after two employees at the Universal Music building in Woolloomooloo were exposed to coronavirus.

As a result, staff members were told to ‘quarantine themselves’ until Monday.

A celebrity photographer, who asked to remain anonymous, told Daily Mail Australia that Katy didn’t leave her hotel all day on Thursday.

Despite this claim, she did upload an Instagram Story post about 4pm (AEST) from Circular Quay that showed the word ‘WASH’ written in the sky.

She captioned it: ‘rn [right now] in Sydney.’

However, it’s unclear if she took the picture herself as the sky-written message ‘WASH HANDS’ was widely photographed by Sydneysiders.

Katy said on Monday that her parents were hesitant to make any physical contact with her during her pregnancy amid growing fears over coronavirus.

Health authorities have advised the public not to shake hands, hug or kiss in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The Wide Awake star told radio show Hughesy & Ed that her mother and father were taking these recommendations very seriously.

She said: ‘My parents fist-bumped me the other day. I was like, “What? Okay. I don’t know… cool.”

‘I came out of them and everything, but I was like, “Sure, yeah.” That’s what watching the news forever will do, I guess!’

‘We’re coming home to the States, at least I’m coming home to the States because we want to get in before the quarantine,’ he explained.

‘Big love everybody, stay safe out there. Self quarantine. It seems really crazy actually this whole corona thing but do the right thing by you and your family and stay safe.’

Orlando, who looked in good spirits, ended the video by declaring: ‘A few weeks, we’ll beat this bad boy.’
