Today Extra host David Campbell shares an update from within his coronavirus self-isolation… after interviewing Tom Hanks’ wife Rita Wilson on Channel Nine show

Television presenter David Campbell has decided to self-isolate after interviewing Rita Wilson, who tested positive with coronavirus, on Today Extra on Monday.

The Nine host has been updating his Instagram followers during his ‘lockdown’, sharing pictures of his three children – Leo, Billy and Betty – who were taken out of school earlier this week as a precaution.

The 46-year-old revealed he was still waiting on results to find out whether he and his family would also test positive, but added he was still feeling fine.

‘Self isolation madness with kids and a puppy. Games and Lego is on for today. 

‘As well as singing Disney songs right up in each other’s grill,’ David wrote on Instagram, sharing pictures of his giggling children. 

Meanwhile, David shared more pictures and footage on his Instagram account, including a video of he and his daughter Betty playing dress up out in their open yard.

In another video, David filmed himself drinking coffee, explaining he was trying to ‘ween off’ caffeine and was still ‘waiting for results’. 

David told 2GB’s Afternoons with Deborah Knight that Rita Wilson hadn’t had any noticeable symptoms when he interviewed her on Monday.

‘She was cautious. She actually made a joke coming into the studios, saying we shouldn’t shake hands, we should bump elbows. So we bumped elbows,’ he said.

Today Extra co-host Belinda Russell, who was also on the panel when they interviewed Rita, is also taking precautionary measures by self-isolating. 

David added that he feels ‘perfectly fine’ and isn’t too concerned about the risk, because he only spent ‘seven or eight minutes’ with Rita.

Daily Mail Australia understands actor Tom Hanks was also present on set when his wife was being interviewed.

During her visit to Channel Nine’s Sydney studios, Rita used the dressing room of A Current Affair host Tracy Grimshaw.

A Nine spokesperson said: 'Nine today has taken action in line with our crisis response plan around a visit to our studio by Ms Rita Wilson on Monday this week, for an appearance on Today Extra with David Campbell and Belinda Russell.

‘Our actions are in line with the guidelines set out by the Government and Health Authorities. Those who were in prolonged contact with Ms Wilson have been tested and are self-isolating for 14 days.

‘Our premises is currently being thoroughly cleaned in all areas she visited and we are encouraging our employees to monitor their health and practice good hygiene.’

As of the afternoon of Saturday March 14, Australia had 227 confirmed cases of coronavirus, including three deaths.
