  • A man, 19, was shot in the back in near a nursery in Coventry yesterday
  • Police rushed to the Hillfields area and the gunshot victim died in hospital
  • The area near Hillfields Nursery School was cordoned off for investigation
  • Those arrested – man, 19, and boy, 15, – will be questioned in custody 

Two teenagers, one aged just 15, have been arrested in early morning raids in connection with the shooting dead of a teenager in broad daylight yesterday.

The 19-year-old victim died after being shot in the back as he walked in the Hillfields area of Coventry, just yards from a nursery school shortly after 2.30pm yesterday. 

The victim, who has not yet been named, was rushed to hospital but could not be saved.

Those arrested, a man, 19, and the 15-year-old, will be questioned in custody about the teenager’s death. 

The shots were fired from a black VW Golf R, with light coloured or silver wing mirrors and five spoke alloy wheels.

A car found burnt out in London Road yesterday evening is believed to be the one used.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: ‘Two teenagers have been arrested in early morning raids at addresses in Coventry today ( March 14).

‘A man, aged 19, and a 15-year-old boy were taken into custody and will be questioned about the murder of a 19-year-old man, who died from gunshot wounds to his back as he walked along Harnall Lane and into Adelaide Street in Hillfields just after 2.30pm yesterday.

‘The shots were fired from a black VW Golf R, with light coloured or silver wing mirrors and five spoke alloy wheels. 

‘A car was discovered burnt out in London Road yesterday evening and is believed to be the one used.

‘Cordons are in place at both locations as forensic experts gather evidence and a post mortem examination will be conducted today.’
