Sam Smith heads out for a relaxed brunch with their father Fred after revealing they are stepping up security at their £12million mansion after being burgled TWICE in one year

Sam Smith enjoyed some family time on Monday, heading to a London brunch spot with their father Frederick.

The singer looked relaxed as they carried a takeout coffee and chatted to their dad before running into a friend.

The outing comes after it was revealed the chart-topper was increasing security measures at their London home after being burgled twice in just one year.

Sam dressed in a warm navy coat with a furry collar, teamed with loose fitting trousers and trainers for the family outing.

Their dad was looking dapper in a smart grey coat as they walked side by side to a local eatery.

Over the weekend it was revealed Sam, 27, has applied for permission to install new CCTV cameras, motion sensors and entry system monitors at the five-bedroom, Grade II listed home in North London, worth £12million.

Sam is thought to have requested the security upgrade after their former property in south London was targeted by burglars twice in 2014.

Sam Smith’s representative has been contacted for comment.

Sam has previously spoken about their close relationships with their parents, who divorced when they were 18, gushing that they were both supportive when they came out as a child.

During a candid chat with fellow gay icon Elton John in 2017 for Attitude Magazine, the Stay With Me hitmaker said that their father worried they would get bullied for their sexuality.

‘I came out when I was 10. I’d just finished primary school, going into secondary school, and I came out to my best friend when I was nine or 10,’ Sam explained.

‘I was very sure of, and in, myself. When I told my mum she said she always knew, she said she knew when I was three, and my dad just asked if I was absolutely sure. And I was sure, even at that age, but they were incredibly supportive.’

The Lay Me Down singer added that their father was ‘scared’ for them and feared they might be bullied because he knew that growing up in London’s Fulham area, people weren’t so accepting.

‘I think my dad was scared for me, because of his own life experience,’ the singer said, adding: ‘I think he saw a lot of kids get bullied and just felt really nervous for me.’

‘Especially when, at 16 and 17, I used to wear a lot of makeup and dressed very differently at school,’ Sam continued.

‘He didn’t have a problem with it, but he was really worried about me.’
