Dua Lipa on unity between women for Vogue Australia

‘We’ve been pitted against each other’: Dua Lipa wants to see more ‘unity’ between women and says social media is a breeding ground for anxiety as she graces Vogue Australia’s April issue

She’s had a stellar rise to the top, since her debut single New Love back in 2015.

And as cover star for Vogue Australia’s April issue, Dua Lipa spoke about the need for women, regardless of industry, to support one another.

‘It’s important to me to show unity between women. We should be seeing more girls, more diversity, more togetherness,’ the 24-year-old English pop sensation said.

‘For so long, people have pitted women being against each other. That’s not how it should be,’ Dua added.

The Don’t Start Now artist, who is dating male model Anwar Hadid, went on to reveal the downside of fame – particularly negative comments on social media.

Dua explained how while she always considered social media to be fun, it became ‘difficult’ towards the end of her campaign, for her debut, self-titled album.

‘The more fun things I had to do, or the bigger things got, there would be opinions and negativity and more voices… I didn’t feel supported,’ she said.

For Vogue Australia’s cover image, Dua hides her lithe figure in a coral frock with statement ruffles and accessorises with white gloves.

Reclining across the floor in a retro-style set, the chart-topper rests one hand against her head, drawing attention to her two-toned locks and striking facial features.

For an inside shot, Dua sports a racy black bodice with cut-outs at the bust, teamed with block colour leather pants and pointy-toe boots.

She perches her frame on the end of a white stool, and raises her arms behind her head, showing off her intricate tattoos.

Dua burst onto the scene with her 2017 self-titled debut album, and is set to release her highly anticipated second album, Future Nostalgia on April 3.

Her 2017 single New Rules has racked up over one billion streams on Spotify, while the video for 2017’s IDGAF has amassed half a billion views on YouTube.
