Criss Angel says he’s trying to stay ‘optimistic’ as son Johnny Crisstopher, 6, begins chemo for leukemia during coronavirus pandemic

His six-year-old son Johnny Crisstopher is undergoing chemotherapy after his leukemia returned after a period of remission.

And magician Criss Angel says he and wife Shaunyl are trying to remain upbeat and positive around their eldest boy even in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

‘There’s no handbook that comes with being a dad or a mom, specifically when you’re going through a time like this, and it’s just trying to use common sense… And trying to not make it a scary monster that you can’t slay,’ Criss, 52, said on The Doctors With Travis Stork podcast.

Magician Criss Angel said Tuesday he and wife Shaunyl are trying to remain upbeat as their son Johnny Crisstopher, six, begins chemotherapy treatment during the coronavirus pandemic

Johnny Crisstopher was first diagnosed with leukemia at 21 months old and after treatment he was declared cancer-free in 2015.

However, this past December, his parents revealed that the cancer had returned.

Since his white blood cell count is low, Johnny Crisstopher is more susceptible to COVID-19.

His famous dad explained to Stork, as reported by People Tuesday, that it’s their faith in God that keeps him and his wife going especially during this stressful time.

‘We try to talk to him with optimism and hope and support and the big keyword is love and God,’ Criss said.

‘I believe if you have the faith of a mustard seed, you can move a mountain. We just want our son to be healed. And we believe he will be healed, and, so we talk to him in a way that… he can understand, but we keep it optimistic.

The little boy began his round of chemo on Tuesday with his mom and dad and baby brother Xristos, one, supporting him.

In March, the magician called off his RAW Tour in order to limit his exposure to the coronavirus and to be able to spend time with his son.

He shared with his fans on Instagram: ‘Johnny Crisstopher is neutropenic and would have a difficult time fighting ANY virus if I were to come home with something I was unaware of. With the intensity of his leukemia treatment, I cannot take any chances.’
