She left fans aghast as she posted that she had beaten Usain Bolt’s 100 meter World Record by a whopping four seconds. 

But Britney Spears’ false start may have been purposeful.

The 38-year-old pop star took to Instagram to share a video of herself posing in yellow outfits along with a lengthy caption which ended with her clarifying that she was being sarcastic when she claimed to demolish the men’s track record.

She wrote: ‘PS …. obviously I was joking about running the 100 meter dash in 5.97 seconds …. the world record is held by Usain Bolt which is 9.58 seconds …. but you better believe I’m coming for the world record !!!! #joking #workb****’ 

This came just hours after she took to Instagram to share a screenshot of a timer that recorded her run as taking 5.97 seconds, a full four seconds faster than Usain Bolt’s 9.58 second record.

Gushing about the achievement, Britney said in the caption: ‘Ran my first 5 !!!! Getting over your fear of pushing it in the beginning is key….

Fans couldn’t help but poke fun at the post and how the star had apparently broken the world record, as they took to Twitter to share their posts.

One follower joked that she was the ‘Front runner for the 2020 winner’, while another suggested that the US Olympics team pick her for the race.

Adding to that sentiment, another added: ‘Now we know why Usain Bolt retired.’ 

Others shared amusing memes including one of Bolt winking, and another that showed a scene from Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse with Usain taking on Myles Morales’ role as he looked in awe of Britney’s Peter Parker.

But it wasn’t all negative, as the star’s Instagram post was flooded with encouraging words and support from her fans.
