Mel Giedroyc ‘hides’ in wardrobe from daughter who she worries will cut off her hair as she isolates with her family amid coronavirus pandemic

Mel Giedroyc has revealed she is ‘hiding’ from her daughter Florence, 17, who she is worried will try to cut her hair as the family isolate amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The TV presenter, 51, appeared on Thursday’s episode of Good Morning Britain where she joked that she worried her daughter might try to chop her hair off after doing the same to herself as she spoke via link from her walk-in wardrobe.

She said: ‘I’m doing quite a lot of hiding in the nook, my elder daughter her first response to self-isolation was to cut all her hair off.

‘She’s got the taste for it, and is coming for mine so that’s why I’m hiding… I keep telling her I’m not a Barbie doll.’

Mel, who is also mother to daughter Vita, 16, who she shares with husband Ben Morris, said she thinks it’s a ‘shame’ school exams have been cancelled.

She said: ‘I mean it’s odd, I felt rather bad because had it been me back in the day I would have been yes and thought thank god what a result, but the reality is for these teens for all these kids it’s a shame, they have been preparing for it for years, but they’ve bounced back.’  

The former Great British Bake Off host told how she has ‘slowed’ things down in order to cope with the change in her lifestyle after Prime Minister Boris Johnson ordered Britain into lockdown to try and combat the virus.

She said: ‘It’s about lowering your expectations. we go by life at such incredible speed and it’s all about slowing it down. 

‘I’ve got into quilting, I’m making a quilt with these pieces here. this is Mary berry’s sun top, she sent it to me it’s from the 60s.’

Mel has teamed up with Sue Perkins once again for the duo’s new comedy series Hitmen where they play hapless assassins Jamie and Fran.

‘It came out last night. I haven’t got Sky so I haven’t seen it. I have something called NowTV, can I watch it live or do I have to wait until I can stream it? 

‘Oh my days listen, thank God for the body doubles, we were told to do loads of stunts and I found getting up from a lying down position was hard… you think you look like Angelina Jolie while running but no.’

It comes after Mel appeared on The One Show on Wednesday to promote Hitmen, where she also appeared via link from her closet.

She was first seen sprawling around on the floor of her walk-in wardrobe, which she branded her ‘nook’. 

Seen on the carpet, clothes hanging up behind her, Mel insisted that she’d been in there all day, hiding from the rest of her family – all of whom are also be in lockdown.
