Niall, who is self isolating in his London apartment, chatted to Jimmy in the US, revealing he has been keeping busy song writing alongside ‘general lounging’ during the UK lockdown.

Alongside chatting about his new music, the two bonded over their shared love of golf, before Niall demonstrated his skills by keeping up a golf ball on his club in the surroundings of his luxury home.

He revealed he’s been working on his putting, setting up a toilet roll at the end of the hallway that he’s been trying to hit into.

During his busy promo time, Niall also made an appearance on his close pal Laura Whitmore’s Castaway podcast, revealing his love of penning romance and heartbreak tracks.

Niall, who first met Laura during his 1D days, told his friend that he’s previously battled with sharing his personal experiences in his music vs keeping relationships private.

‘There was one thing that you said, and it was “You have to have life experiences to write about stuff” and I suppose with One Direction you were doing album, album, album… there wasn’t much gap in between. Where were the life experiences?’ asked Laura.

‘Just kind of relationship stuff in between in the gaps. You were kind of just picking bits and pieces but since going out on my own I’ve given myself time to write albums and I found that since going out on my own I’ve been through relationships and got out the other side of them and kind of taken my stories from there.’

After Laura asked if he’s ever wary about writing about something so personal, Niall explained: ‘I’ve stopped myself and thought ‘Can I say that? Should I say that? Will they care if they say that?’ But then to be honest, its fine, I can tell that person if it’s about them and explain why.’

‘I didn’t really think about it until I went on tour in 2018. I’d stand on stage every night and there would literally be people standing there crying and what I was taking from that was, they don’t want to know who that song’s about, they don’t care, they’ve actually delved into it and related to something in their life.’

Heart breaker: During his busy promo time, Niall also made an appearance on his close pal Laura Whitmore’s Castaway podcast, revealing his love of penning heartbreak tracks

‘When I was writing this album I was trying to write not very selfish songs because I went through a break up when I was writing and its very easy to just ‘Ahhh I’m so sad, look at me looking out this window, you know?’’

Niall also revealed that he’s started to dip back into the dating pool, but since cutting back on his drinking he’s been wary of dinner dates.

‘I was going to go on a date recently and I’m also trying to stay away from alcohol, so I was thinking how do you chat to someone without going for a drink?!’

Haha! I hate the idea of sitting across from someone and going for dinner – Sitting in front of a table in front of someone… you know. ‘
