Household bills are set to rise over the next few months… but you can still make savings

Customers are being urged to shop around as bills are set to rise over the next few months. 

Everything from phone bills to NHS prescriptions are due to go up from today, but there are still ways to save money. 

BT, EE, O2, Three and Vodafone are all hiking prices between now and May.

O2 and Three are enforcing the highest increases, with both firms hiking prices by 2.7 per cent in April and May respectively. 

If you’re out of contract you won’t have to pay to switch to a better deal but those mid-contract could face penalty fees. 

Sky is also raising prices across its TV and broadband deals from today. Which? says you can try to negotiate with Sky if you’re a long-standing customer. 

Gareth Shaw, head of money at Which?, says: ‘Whether applying for a special discount, haggling or if you are out of contract, you might save by switching provider.’ 

Water bills in England and Wales are due to fall by 4 per cent, but some customers will see rises of 4 per cent as prices vary among suppliers. 

You can’t switch provider but changing to a water meter may save cash. 

NHS prescription charges rise by 15p to £9.15 today in line with inflation. A prepayment certificate might save you money if you need a lot of prescriptions.
