Mariah Carey honors frontline workers with moving performance of her hit song Hero for Joel Osteen’s virtual Easter Sunday service: ‘We are united’
Mariah Carey shared her support of essential workers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic with a moving performance of her 1993 number-one single Hero.
Before her special performance, which also streamed on Joel Osteen’s virtual Easter Sunday service, the five-time Grammy winner introduced her YouTube video by admitting she was just doing her best, without the ability to come together.
‘We find ourselves in a unique time in history where we can’t celebrate together in person, and I’m grateful that so many of us are staying home and staying safe,’ the 50-year-old hitmaker said in the clip on Saturday, while speaking at her home recording studio.

‘In a time like this, we set aside our differences and come together for fellowship and hope. We come together to lift each other up during this time of uncertainty, no matter what our views, no matter what our beliefs, no matter what our differences are,’ she reflected, before jumping into song.
She added: ‘I want to take this time to acknowledge and honor the sacrifices of those who work everyday taking care of their communities.’
Before her longtime musical director Daniel Moore joined her to virtually play the piano, she sweetly called frontline workers, ‘the heroes who are making our daily lives possible.’
