Lady Gaga vows to use social media for causes like Black Lives Matter to ‘lift up’ black community

Lady Gaga is continuing to use her considerable platform and voice and take a stand for her black fans and the community as a whole.

On Thursday, the Chromatica star, 34, announced on her social media platforms that starting this weekend, she will be devoting her Instagram to causes related to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Next to a photo of her fist that was similar to the BLM raised fist logo, Gaga wrote, ‘Starting tomorrow, I’m giving over my Instagram account to each of the organizations I’ve recently donated to, in an effort to amplify their important voices.’

Speaking up again: On Thursday, Lady Gaga announced on her social media platforms that starting this weekend, she will be devoting her Instagram to causes related to the Black Lives Matter movement

Gaga’s wrist features her famous peace sign tattoo, which she has said in the past is a tribute to peace activist John Lennon.

In a subsequent tweet, the Babylon songstress continued, ‘And after I vow to regularly, in perpetuity, across all of my social media platforms, post stories, content, and otherwise lift up the voices of the countless inspiring members and groups within the Black community.’

The message comes after the singer and actress, born Stefani Germanotta, expressed ‘outrage’ last Saturday over the killing of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis, Minnesota, while labeling President Donald Trump a ‘fool’ and a ‘racist’ in a lengthy statement on social media.

Now, with all four former police officers at the scene of Floyd’s killing charged, the pop superstar has spoken out: giving credit, in part, to the ‘voices of the people’ for demanding justice while promoting two advocacy organizations she has proudly donated money towards.

‘I hope that all cops who have engaged in or are engaging in any racist activity are met with the highest form of law & order,’ she wrote before adding, ‘although we know the law & order in this country is predicated upon racism and is itself corrupt.’

The Oscar-winning singer-songwriter went on to describe the fatal arrest of Floyd on May 25 as another devastating example of ‘police brutality and prejudicial responses’ from prosecutors and local officials.’

The New York native then offered her hope for ‘justice and healing’ for all the Black lives affected by institutionalized racism, at one point referring to the ‘epic tragedy’ of the collective Black experience in this country.

With obvious emotion coming through in her writing, the Born This Way star singled out the ‘brave citizens of this nation’ for speaking up in the wake of yet another unarmed African-American man killed by police.

‘I support the unsupported voices of the Black community,’ she added.

‘I wish for their voices to be heard loudly and clearly, and that they feel loved and amplified by allies.’

Always one to advocate for kindness, Gaga described the movement as being ‘intrinsically rooted in a universal dream of kindness’, a kindness that she wishes upon those suffering from racial and social injustices, both past and present.

‘I have endless compassion in my heart as we struggle as one nation to find bold and effective solutions to an insidious and systemic problem that’’ plagued our country since its birth,’ she explained.

Gaga ended by sharing some information about the two advocacy organizations — Black Lives Matter and Loveland Foundation — she has donated to in support of the ongoing fight for racial and social justice

‘I encourage you to learn about the important work they do and how you can get involved. Black Lives Matter.’

Derek Chauvin, who was seen in videos pressing his knee into Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes, was charged on Wednesday with a new, more serious count of second-degree murder.

He was previously charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

The three other officers at the scene of the killing — Thomas K. Lane, Tou Thao, and J. Alexander Kueng — were charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder.

People have hit the streets in protest across most big cities in the US, and now in cities in Europe, in the days since Floyd’s death.
