Padma Lakshmi and Rachel Brosnahan lead politically proactive citizens showing off ‘I Voted’ stickers on social media as New York and other states hold primaries

With the political spectrum more divided than ever before, this election year is shaping up to be the most important, by far.

Tuesday marked primary elections in New York, Kentucky and Virginia, with congressional runoff elections in North Carolina and Mississippi and runoff elections for legislative races in South Carolina.

And stars Padma Lakshmi and Rachel Brosnahan made their participation known after casting their votes, each taking to Instagram to show off the customary ‘I Voted’ sticker that’s handed out at the ballot box.

Lakshmi, 49, posted a cute masked photo with daughter Krishna Thea, in which the Top Chef sported her ‘I Voted!’ sticker and Krishna, 10, wore one that said ‘I’m a future voter!’

Mom and daughter donned lovely patterned masks in the snap, and the author’s little girl held up one gloved hand in a peace sign.

‘Put your vote where your mouth is,’ the author captioned the snap, along with a muscle flexing emoji.

Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Brosnahan, 29, took to her Instagram Stories with a succession of informative images about primary voting in the three states in question, along with a picture of graffiti showing the late Breonna Taylor with a caption saying, ‘Breonna Taylor should be voting today’.

Rachel finished off with a picture of her journal, displaying her initials ‘RB’ over her ‘I Voted’ sticker.

It was just the latest of a flurry of socially-conscious activity from the actress, who has regularly been posting content pertaining to the Black Lives Matter movement and awareness around systemic racism.

A search of the hashtag #IVoted, which Padma included in her post, shows countless other voters proudly showing their stickers in an effort to spread awareness of this important facet of democracy.

Padma’s and Rachel’s posts come after Jennifer Lopez, Hailey, Justin Bieber and other stars reminded people to vote earlier this month, when on June 2nd eight other states cast ballots on the biggest primary day since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

Voting, voter suppression and the ability to mail in ballots during the ongoing pandemic have become hot-button issues as the presidential election on November 3rd grows closer.
