  • A 6.0-magnitude earthquake rocked New Zealand on Thursday morning
  • The quake struck 40km west of popular tourist destination Milford Sound 
  • As many as 3,000 people reported feeling the ‘strong, sharp’ tremor 

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake has rocked New Zealand this morning.

The quake struck 40km west of popular tourist destination Milford Sound, on the south west of the South Island.

As many as 3,000 people reported feeling the strong tremor, with some as far away away as Wellington, on the lower North Island.

‘Rockin’ and rolling in the office here in Queenstown,’ one person wrote. 

‘Big wobble,’ wrote another.

‘Bit of shake in Dunedin,’ another wrote.

Southland District councillor Ebel Kremer told Stuff there were no reports of any property damage. 

According to EQNZ the quake was at a depth on 5km.
