Katie Price’s son Harvey is taken to hospital for ‘urgent medical care’ after falling ill at home

Katie Price’s eldest child Harvey was admitted to hospital on Monday morning after falling ill.

The teenager, who turned 18 last month, has the rare genetic disorder Prader-Willi Syndrome, among other health complications including being blind due to Septo-optic dysplasia while he is also autistic, has an underactive thyroid and diabetes.

Harvey was seen being treated by paramedics at their rented Surrey mansion as his sister Princess was celebrating her 13th birthday party.

Katie’s representative told The Sun Online: ‘Harvey has been taken to a local hospital for tests – he wasn’t feeling well yesterday and has today has presented symptoms that require urgent medical attention.

‘Katie recognised the signs and knew when to call an ambulance. He’s expected to be discharged later today.’

MailOnline has contacted Katie’s representatives for further comment.

Due to Harvey’s complex needs, he lives in residential care, but has been home with Katie during lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Katie made the heartbreaking decision to send Harvey – who suffers from numerous medical conditions – to residential care last year.

Harvey was born with septo-optic dysplasia, a condition that means the development of his optic nerve was unpredictable.

Katie also later discovered he is on the autistic spectrum, gains weight easily because he suffers from Prader–Willi syndrome, and finds mobility difficult.

On an episode of Katie Price: My Crazy Life in April 2019, the mother-of-five candidly admitted she ‘had no option’ but to send Harvey to the care centre, as she admitted it was ‘selfish’ of her to keep him at home.

During lockdown, Katie has been isolating with her children at a £4,250-per-month mansion close to her ex Peter Andre, with whom she shares two children.

Son Junior, 15, and daughter Princess, 13, have been dividing their time between their mother Katie’s home and Peter, who has been locked down with his wife Emily and their children Amelia, six, and Theo, three.

Katie also shares son Jett, six, and daughter Bunny, five, with estranged husband Kieran Hayler, and they have been sharing custody in lockdown.

Last month, Katie said disabled son Harvey was ‘sent to her for a reason’ in an emotional interview with OK! Magazine to mark his 18th birthday.

The former glamour model showed her love for her eldest son in a touching chat, and slammed his estranged father Dwight Yorke for allegedly failing to wish Harvey a happy birthday.

Katie, who shares a famously close bond with her son, said: ‘I do think Harvey was sent to me for a reason. I’ve always had a caring side and wanted to look after someone. Sometimes I think it was meant to be.’

She added: ‘He’s the only child that no one can ever try to take away from me. The others have their dads, but it’s reassuring for me that he’s always by my side.’

The star, who dated ex Manchester United star Dwight, 48, from 2000-2001, also criticised Dwight for his alleged lack of contact with Harvey.

In her 2016 book Reborn, the mother-of-five insisted Dwight was unwilling to accept the limitations of his son’s disabilities.

In October 2019, Katie also claimed it has been 13 years since Dwight had seen Harvey, and in an emotional video two months later, she pleaded for the former footballer to see his son.

When asked if Dwight had been in touch for his son’s birthday, : ‘No, it’s like he has no feelings for Harvey whatsoever. ‘The only thing that upsets me is that Harvey has a half-brother out there and he’s never met him.

She added that it was ‘never too late’ and that the door was ‘always open’ for Dwight to come back into his son’s life.

Katie and Dwight had split by the time she gave birth to her first child Harvey in May 2002 and the model has since criticised the sportsman for his treatment of their son.
