  • The midfielder will sign a five-year contract, believed to be worth £13m in wages
  • He arrived on a private jet from Birmingham and will undergo his medical
  • Reports claim Bellingham will still be able to finish the Championship season

Jude Bellingham is poised to sign a five-year-deal with Borussia Dortmund after agreeing a £25million move from Birmingham that would make him the most expensive 17-year-old in history.

The midfielder flew to Germany on Thursday for a medical and to complete a transfer that could earn Blues in excess of £30million if certain performance targets are met.

Dortmund have fought off competition from a number of other top clubs, notably Manchester United, to land Bellingham.

United gave Bellingham and his parents a tour of the training ground, with Sir Alex Ferguson present, earlier this year, but Sportsmail understands the success of Jadon Sancho in the Bundesliga played a significant part in Bellingham’s thinking.

Under the terms of the deal, it is thought Bellingham would return to Birmingham for the final two games of the Championship season.

Blues are on the brink of ensuring another season in the second tier – they are five points clear of the bottom three with two games remaining – after Bellingham created an injury-time equaliser for Lukasz Jutkiewicz in the 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers Charlton on Wednesday.

Even though he did not turn 17 until June 29, Bellingham has made 42 appearances in all competitions this season, earning just £145 per week on schoolboy terms.

Dortmund are an attractive destination for some of Europe’s brightest talents. Sancho and Norwegian striker Erling Braut Haaland have flourished there, as did Christian Pulisic before joining Chelsea last year.

Achraf Hakimi has had a productive spell on loan from Real Madrid and will join Inter Milan for next season, while American playmaker Giovani Reyna also shows huge promise.

Bellingham’s immediate priority, however, is to keep Birmingham up. In their final two games, they travel to Preston before facing Derby at home and one more point is likely to be enough to secure survival.
