Love Island’s Wes Nelson reveals he’s signed his first solo record deal and teases a ‘debut single is on the way’… after failed X Factor: Celebrity bid

Wes Nelson has revealed he’s signed his first solo record deal after failing to win The X Factor: Celebrity last year.

The Love Island star, 22, took to Instagram on Thursday to announced he’d signed on the dotted line for his contract with EMI Records, and was quick to tease that a ‘debut single was on the way.’

Last year Wes joined Love Island co-stars Zara McDermott, Samira Mighty and Eyal Booker to compete on The X Factor: Celebrity, but the group were eliminated during the third live show.

Wes shared a gallery of snaps from the moment he signed his contract and described himself as ‘the happiest man on the planet.’

He penned the caption: ‘I am the happiest man on the planet! I have just signed my first record deal with @universalmusicgroup @emirecords.

‘Anyone who knows me knows this is my biggest dream and I’m so f*****g proud! I’d like to thank my managers @rzk_rnr and @so.empire + the Label for giving me the opportunity.

‘I’ve got a great team around me, this is just the start! The debut single is on the way.’

Wes failed to set the music world alight as a part of No Love Lost last year, and the group parted ways in March so he and Samira could launch solo careers.

The reality star particularly impressed with his rapping skills during the performances, and revealed ahead of the show he taught himself to play the piano.

Elsewhere Wes split from girlfriend Arabella Chi, 28, earlier this summer after nine months of dating.

The pair were said to have ‘grown apart’ and had become more aware of their six-year age gap ahead of their split.

Wes moved out of the home he shared with the model so they didn’t have to isolate together under lockdown rules. He is now living with his friend and former Love Island 2018 co-star, Josh Denzel.

A source told The Sun at the time: ‘It’s all over. They started to grow apart. They want to remain civil with each other and hope to remain friends.’

The news likely came as a shock to their fans, as just a week before they called it quits, the pair revealed that they were enjoying their time in lockdown together.

Speaking to OK! Online, Wes said: ‘It’s been alright. It’s hard to get out at the moment, isn’t it? We’re just trying to do our piece of exercise a day.’
