In June, Ruby debuted a buzz cut with a love heart and lightning bolt running through it, and said it had a powerful meaning behind it.

Ruby explained she had met with actress and rapper Bre-Z for a ‘meeting of minds’ to discuss how they could use their ‘platforms’ to ‘create unity and change’.

During the meeting, the Empire star offered to give Ruby’s buzz cut a fresh shave, before surprising her with the heartfelt design.

‘We brainstormed, we discussed where the world is at right now, what needs to change and how we can use our platforms and create initiatives to make an ongoing impact of spreading love through unity and change,’ Ruby said.

‘She gave me a little trim and completely surprised me with this on the back. Love and love and love,’ she added.

Ruby, meanwhile, has recently made headlines for leaving the CW’s Batwoman after just one season in the lead role.

She told the publication that she’d suffered several injuries and decided to leave after having time to reflect on her life and career during the pandemic.

‘Being the lead of a superhero show is tough. Being the lead in anything is tough,’ Ruby said, adding that she was still recovering from surgery.

She said she thought it was ‘time to take a break to fully heal and then return’, but the COVID-19 pandemic changed her mind.

When filming for the ‘real finale’ of the show was haltered due to the crisis, it gave the actress to reflect on her career.

‘You know, you have time in quarantine and sort of isolation to just think about a lot of different things and what you want to achieve in life and what you want to do,’ she explained to the publication.
