The first night of the Creative Emmy Awards is in the books, with Apollo 11 and RuPaul’s Drag Race getting off to big starts.
While the event typically takes place over two nights, the weekend before the Primetime Emmys telecast, this year’s ceremony was split up into five separate nights.
Nicole Byer (Nailed It) hosts all five nights of the ceremony, filming pre-taped hosting segments due to the COVID-19 production restrictions.

Apollo 11 won Outstanding Picture Editing For A Nonfiction Program, beating out Netflix’s The Factory and Tiger King, HBO’s McMillions, ESPN’s The Last Dance and Apple TV Plus’ Beastie Boys Story.
The CNN documentary also won Outstanding Sound Editing For A Nonfiction Or Reality Program (Single Or Multi-Camera), beating out Apple TV Plus’ Beastie Boys Story, Netflix’s Cheer and Tiger King, HBO’s McMillions and Epix’s Laurel Canyon: A Place in Time.

The final award of the first night for Apollo 11 was Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Nonfiction Or Reality Program (Single or Multi-Camera), winning over Apple TV Plus’ Beastie Boys Story, Netflix’s Cheer and Tiger King, HBO’s McMillions and VH1’s RuPaul’s Drag Race.

RuPaul’s Drag Race beat out Fox’s LEGO Masters, Netflix’s Queer Eye, CBS’ Survivor and Bravo’s Top Chef for the editing award.
Netflix’s Cheer was the only other multiple-Emmy-winner of the night, taking home two awards for Outstanding Picture Editing For An Unstructured Reality Program and Outstanding Directing for a Reality Program.
Cheer beat out Discovery’s Deadliest Catch, National Geographic’s Life Below Zero and VH1’s RuPaul’s Drag Race for the editing award.
