2020 E! People’s Choice Awards: Nominees revealed, Jennifer Lopez honored with Icon Award

The nominees are out for this year’s E! People’s Choice Awards and Jennifer Lopez is set to receive the 2020 People’s Icon Award.

With 44 categories spanning music, television, film, podcasts and social media, the annual fan-voted show is one of the largest of its kind and voting has officially kicked off with the release of the nominations. 

This year the telecast will also honor champions and heroes who’ve inspired people throughout an unprecedented time between the coronavirus pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement. 

The PCAs honor stars across every single facet of media and pop culture with 44 categories and eight nominees per category for a grand total of 352 individual nominations

This year newcomer Megan Thee Stallion and veteran Justin Bieber earned the most nods across the music categories with six nominations each, followed close behind with Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande with five. 

Several new music awards were added this year like The New Artist of 2020, The Collaboration Song of 2020 and The Soundtrack Song of 2020.

In the film categories, Birds of Prey, Hamilton and Bad Boys for Life each nabbed five nominations, making it a three-way tie for the most nominated movie. 

There were also several films who picked up an impressive four nominations each: Extraction, Project Power, The Invisible Man, Like a Boss and The Old Guard.

Competition will be fierce for the top prize among the film categories, the Movie of 2020. 

The nominees are Bad Boys For Life, Birds of Prey: And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, Extraction, Hamilton, Project Power, The Invisible Man, The Old Guard and Trolls World Tour.

The television categories covered a much wider range of topics from scripted, to talk shows to reality series and more unique ones like Bingeworthy show.

This Is Us is the most nominated show with six, followed by five-time nominees Grey’s Anatomy and Outer Banks and four-time nominees The Bachelor, The Masked Singer, Riverdale, Schitt’s Creek and The Walking Dead. 

Keeping Up With the Kardashians nabbed five nominations across the dozens of categories with Kim, Khloe, Kylie and Kendall individual nominees as well as a nod for the show.

Surprisingly, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, got some love for daytime talk show despite the recent workplace scandal.

The top television award, The Show of 2020 features Grey’s Anatomy, Never Have I Ever, Outer Banks, The Bachelor, The Masked Singer, The Last Dance, This Is Us and Tiger King.

Unlike other awards shows, the PCA’s also honor pop culture categories like, Beauty Influencer, Style Star and Social Celebrity, which encompass a wide array of celebrities. 

This year the Style Star nominees include Janelle Monáe, Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian West, Lady Gaga, Lil Nas X, Rihanna, Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya.

Jennifer Lopez will be honored with the PCA’s version of a lifetime achievement award, the 2020 People’s Icon. Jenny from the Block is a previous People’s Choice award-winner as well as a six-time nominee.

‘For paving the way for artists around the world and single-handedly increasing Latinx representation in music, film, television, and fashion, we’re honoring Jennifer Lopez with ‘The People’s Icon of 2020,’ she added in a press release. 

The People’s Choice Awards are made for celebrities with massive fan armies since there are several ways to cast multiple votes.

Fans are able to vote 25 times per method, per category, per day and votes cast on Thursday, October 15 will count twice. 

Voting is open now and will run through Friday, October 23 at 11:59pm ET.  The 2020 E! People’s Choice Awards airs Sunday, November 15 at 9:00pm ET/PT.
