She broke into the world of documentaries in 2008 with the release of her film The Business of Being Born after a storied career in front of the camera.

And Ricki Lake proved to be just like the rest of us as she picked up a few treats for her beloved pet pooch Mama in Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon.

The 52-year-old actress sported a black T-shirt and matching leggings while leaving the Healthy Spot in the seaside community of Marina del Rey.

The former talk show host looked comfortable in a black tee and calf-length leggings while walking her dog.

Peeks of her salt-and-pepper hair peered out from underneath a bright red hat and she carried a beige leather backpack across one shoulder.

The Hairspray star made sure to protect herself and others amid the ongoing global COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic with a grey face covering.

She carried a big brown paper bag in one hand and let Mama lead the way through the parking lot to her car.

Ricki turned producer for a documentary about midwifery and childbirths for her 2008 film with Abby Epstein which included footage from her own home water birth with son Owen Tyler Sussman.

The Business Of… project had such an impact that the pair followed up with More Business of Being Born, featuring Alanis Morissette, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Giselle Bundchen and many others.

The Face of Birth, Breastmilk and The Mama Sherpas followed soon after and their latest film, The Business of Birth Control, is due in 2020.

Ricki investigated the world of medicinal marijuana and the life changing benefits of cannabis as a cancer treatment for five pediatric cancer patients in Weed The People.

‘I believe [cannabis] is medicine,’ she told WeedMaps. ‘And I believe it can heal the planet and heal people on this planet in so many ways. That’s what I learned through my [late] husband [Christian Evans]: it’s a medicine. 

‘It’s something I judged, and was fearful of, and I was so indoctrinated with “Just Say No” to drugs back in the ’80s. And my show, when I was hosting that show, I was so anti-drug and so closed minded. And now I could not be more supportive of all medicine.’
