GBBO contestant Laura Adlington admits she ‘thought I was going to be picked apart because of my weight’ as she responds to love from viewers

Great British Bake Off contestant Laura Adlington has admitted she thought she was going to be ‘picked apart’ on the show because of her weight.

The Samaritans volunteer, 31, from Gravesend took to Twitter on Tuesday to confess her fears after being inundated with love from fans following the chocolate week episode.

Laura didn’t get off to a good start after her salted caramel brownies were under-cooked for the signature bake challenge but managed to secure a place in next week’s show.

After an article was posted on Grazia about how much viewers adored her, Laura typed: ‘Such a lovely article! I was terrified about going on gbbo because I thought I was going to be picked apart because of my weight. This means a lot.’

Fans of the show enjoyed watching Laura’s interactions with hosts Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding, with her previously confessing she saw Matt in Les Miserables last year.

One wrote: ‘Think Laura is raising to the challenge and getting better each week, what #GBBO is all about. She just need to believe she’s good enough to be there.’

Viewers called Tuesday’s episode the ‘harshest’ one yet, as not one contestant was able to impress Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith with their brownie creations.

Mark Lutton said out of the tent: ‘That was brutal. I mean brownies. What are people watching this going to think of us?

‘We’re meant the best amateur bakers in the country and cannot make brownies to please Paul and Prue.’

Next up was the Technical challenge, which required the bakers to create a Chocolate Babka.

The final task was the Showstopper round where the contestants had to bake a white chocolate celebration cake.

After serving a raw cake to Prue and Paul, Sura was eliminated.

The Great British Bake Off continues next Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
