Parents blast popular children’s group The Wiggles for ‘not making skirts for boys’ as the band announce new Emma costumes

Australian children’s group The Wiggles have come under scrutiny for not including ‘skirts for boys’ in their latest costume pack.

The band announced their new Emma costume on Instagram on Wednesday. The packaging shows girls wearing skirts and pants while the boys only wear pants.

Some parents have criticised the group for this, arguing that the ‘Emma Costumes for Everyone’ range should include a skirt specifically for boys.

‘My boys love wearing tutus!’ Popular children’s group The Wiggles (pictured) has been blasted by parents for ‘not making skirts for boys’ after the band announced a new Emma costume

‘Would have been nice to show boys in skirts too,’ one parent wrote on Instagram.

Another commented: ‘So excited! Although my son asked for a skirt so I guess he’ll be coming to the concert in a skirt, I don’t mind.’

‘Would have been nice to show boys in skirts too, one person wrote. ‘My grandson still loves wearing the Emma dress,’ a third added.

A fourth wrote: ‘Why are there girls wearing pants but no boys wearing dresses? My boys love wearing tutus and dresses for dancing.’

‘Girls in pants but not boys in skirts,’ another fan commented with a sad-face emoji.

Emma Watkins, a.k.a. the ‘Yellow Wiggle’, wears a costume that features a yellow skivvy, a matching bow, and a black-and-yellow tutu.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted a representative for The Wiggles for comment.

Emma is joined in The Wiggles by ‘Red Wiggle’ Simon Pryce, ‘Purple Wiggle’ Lachlan Gillespie and ‘Blue Wiggle’ Anthony Field.

Last month, Lachlan revealed that he and his fiancée, ballet dancer Dana Stephensen, had welcomed twin daughters.

Neither Lachlan nor Dana had given any hint they were expecting, meaning fans were completely surprised by the announcement.
