Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany denies she’s set to star as MCU’s She-Hulk in new Disney+ series

Marvel Comics fans got super excited last month when it was reported Tatiana Maslany had been cast to play She-Hulk in a Disney+ series.

But in an interview published in a Canadian newspaper on Thursday, the Canadian actress denied she’s set join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

‘That actually isn’t a real thing and it’s like a press release that’s gotten out of hand,’ Maslany told the Regina-Post Leader. ‘I’ve been connected to these things in the past and press has gotten onto it, but it’s not actually a thing, unfortunately.’

Naslany, who was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, is best known for starring in the TV series Orphan Black from 2013 to 2017.

Most recently, she appeared in HBO’s Perry Mason, an origin story of the famed defense attorney played by Matthew Rhys.

ScreenRant.com had a theory about the confusion surrounding She-Hulk.

The website’s Cooper Hood noted that ‘It isn’t uncommon for actors linked to major superhero roles to deny their involvement, especially when it comes to the MCU.’

Hood wrote: ‘MCU cast members aren’t usually allowed to discuss their roles until Marvel has confirmed them, and they have yet to do so for Maslany.’

He also noted that the confusion could be because Maslany and the studio had failed to come to an agreement on a deal.

MCU has already announced that She-Hulk will join the movie franchise for Phase 4 and the Disney+ series is a way for the studios to capitalize on the new addition on its subscription streaming service.

Earlier this year, Kat Coiro was confirmed as director for the She-Hulk series pilot  which was scheduled to go into production before the end of 2020.
