Dancing on Ice’s Matt Richardson has been left with concussion after suffering an injury to his head just seconds after beginning his training, according to reports.

The TV presenter, 29, is preparing for the 2021 series of the ITV show as a stand-in – and would replace one of the main contestants if they had to drop out.

But the star suffered an injury to his head and was reportedly left with a concussion after four seconds on the ice during his first session with coaches Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

A source told The Sun: ‘Matt was keen as mustard to get out on to the rink. But once he was on there, it turned to disaster.

‘He was skating with a pole when he fell and landed on his head. There was a nasty cut and he suffered concussion.

‘Matt put a brave face on it but he was shaken up. It was a reminder of how hard the show is and how dangerous taking part can be.’

The source went on to state Matt had vowed to get back on the ice as soon as he has recovered and he will get extra coaching so he is ready to take part is needed. 

MailOnline has contacted a representative for Matt and Dancing On Ice for a comment.

Contestants taking part in the 2021 show include The Mummy Diaries’ Billie Faiers, Olympic star Colin Jackson, TV star Denise van Outen, ex-Corrie star Faye Brookes, and Olympic skier Graham Bell.

Singer Jason Donovan, Emmerdale’s Joe-Warren Plant, rap star Lady Leshurr, radio host Myleene Klass, Rebekah Vardy, comedian Rufus Hound, and radio host Sonny Jay will also be getting their skates on for the new series.

The WAG, 38, took to Instagram to share a selfie with the skating pro, jokingly pleading: ‘Don’t drop me!’ as she took to the ice ahead of her first performance in January.  

Meanwhile Denise announced her skating partner would be Matt Evers. 

On Friday Matt took to Instagram to reveal he has moved in with Denise, her longterm love Eddie Boxshall and daughter Betsy ahead of the Tier 2 lockdown.
