TALK OF THE TOWN: No method for Elisabeth Moss as she admits she’s no Daniel Day Lewis

It works for Daniel Day Lewis and Meryl Streep – but Elisabeth Moss, star of The Handmaid’s Tale, won’t be ‘method acting’ any time soon – because it’s so boring!

She says she admires actors who ‘go so deep’ but adds: ‘It looks like they’re working so hard, and it’s so admirable… I know I’d just get bored immediately. I just can’t do it.’

It looks like her relaxed style works – she has won two Golden Globes and two Emmys, and is still in her 30s.

Elisabeth Moss says she will not be becoming a method actor like Daniel Day Lewis

Idris Elba may have endured the mildest of brushes with Covid-19 but it’s enough to leave him lecturing us on the meaning of life.

In March, the 48-year-old actor discovered he had the virus after a precautionary test but suffered no symptoms. That hasn’t stopped him telling fans: ‘Mother Nature has found a way of saying, “OK, let’s get you guys to reset. Think about what you need to do here because I can take it all away. What are you doing? What are you thinking? What are we doing here?”

‘It’s a very high brow analogy but honestly, man, for me, personally, this is how I view this time.’

Deep, Idris, very deep…

Frying shame, Gordon

Chef Gordon Ramsay clearly has never heard the phrase ‘cheap as chips’ – he thinks it’s OK to ask punters at his restaurant The Savoy Grill on The Strand to fork out £10 for a portion.

He’s shamed by Britain’s chip shop of the year, the Cod’s Scallops in Wollaton, Nottingham, where he can get a bag of their golden, crispy award-winners – all cooked in lashings of beef dripping – for £2.50.
