Wheel of Fortune hosts Pat Sajak and Vanna White pen touching tributes to Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek after he passes away at 80 years of age

Just hours after beloved Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek passed away following his lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer, his Wheel of Fortune colleagues Pat Sajak and Vanna White penned touching tributes.

Sajak, 74, who started hosting Wheel of Fortune in 1983, a year before Trebek’s Jeopardy! debuted in 1984, took to Twitter for his tribute on Sunday.

White, 64, who has served as hostess on Wheel of Fortune since 1982, shared several pics with Trebek in a touching Instagram tribute.

‘Alex Trebek’s courage, grace and strength inspired millions and awed those of us who knew him,’ Sajak began.

‘A tremendous loss for his family, friends, co-workers and countless viewers,’ Sajak added.

‘I was honored to be a friend and a part of his professional family for all these years. A very sad day,’ he concluded.

White shared a number of photos of her and Sajak with Trebek, including a snap from a 1997 April Fool’s Day episode where Trebek hosted Wheel of Fortune and Sajak and White were contestants.

‘I will cherish the many memories I have shared with Alex Trebek that date back well before either of our careers took off,’ White began.

‘I will always be in awe of the way he faced the battle he fought so valiantly, and I’m devastated to lose my longtime friend,’ she added.

‘My heart is with his family, friends, co-workers and fans. There will never be another Alex Trebek and he will truly be missed,’ White concluded.

Both Trebek’s Jeopardy! and Sajak and White’s Wheel of Fortune were filmed at the Sony Pictures lot in Culver City, California.

The show’s have filmed on neighboring stages for decades, with Jeopardy! filmed on Stage 10 on the Sony lot since 1994 and Wheel of Fortune filmed on Stage 11 since 1995.

Both Trebek and Sajak were honored together as they both received Lifetime Achievement Awards at the Daytime Emmy Awards in 2011.

Trebek went back to work on Jeopardy! this summer, one of the first shows to return to production after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The show announced that Trebek’s final day in the studio was October 29, just 10 days before his death, with his final episode airing on Christmas Day.
