I’m A Celebrity 2020: Stars get 10 STARS in horrific eating trial

I’m A Celebrity contestants Vernon Kay, Beverley Callard and Jordan North managed to win 10 stars in this year’s eating trial, Frights of the Round Table.

The three stars were voted by the public to take part in the classic challenge, where they had to force down sheep’s brain and penis, cow’s teat and goat’s eyes.

The group managed to successfully complete the challenge taking the maximum amount of stars back to their impressed co-stars in their castle living quarters.

Yuck! I’m A Celebrity contestants Vernon Kay, Beverley Callard and Jordan North managed to win 10 stars in this year’s stomach-churning eating trial

Beverley, Jordan and Vernon arrived at the Trial and were greeted by hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly who joked ‘table for three’ as they noticed the large circular table they’d be sitting at for the Trial.

Bev paid homage to her Corrie character Liz McDonald’s history as a barmaid at the Rover’s Return and said she hoped she’d be served a ‘hot pot and a chip butty’.

Dec explained to them that the Trial was called Fright of the Round Table and that it was an eating Trial with 10 stars on offer which meant 10 dishes to be served.

They explained that everyone would face two dishes with the other four decided at random, after they span a sword in the middle of the table.

Ant explained that all of Beverley’s dishes would be vegan because she’s vegan and that each dish completed is a meal for camp.

Everyone agreed to give it a go and the Trial started.

Vernon was first up with Lamb Rank which was sheep’s brain, he had to eat half of the meal presented on the plate.

He managed to eat it and get the first star for camp, afterwards he said ‘It was like a really bad pate that’s been left in the sun for five weeks festering.’

Next was Beverley with vomit fruit called a Cheese Fruit Vomlette, she looked at it and said ‘oh my god it’s disgusting.’ She started eating it and Vernon told her to go to her ‘happy place’ which was Spain with her husband.

Ant asked if Spain was her happy place, Bev said ‘Yes, but I’m not there yet.’ As she chewed the vomit fruit omelette, everyone laughed.

Dec said: ‘You’re in the departure lounge and it’s a delayed flight.’ Beverley managed to do it and get the second star for camp.

Jordan was next with a Steak and Eye-Le Pie, also known as goats eyes, he found it hard to chew but managed to do and get the third star for camp.

Vernon was presented with Turn Nips Pie, cow’s teat, Jordan gasped and asked if you could eat cow’s teat. Vernon joked: ‘We’re about to find out….’

Vernon was next with Nuts Roast, deer testicles, he struggled to chew the testicle and keep it down and had to put it into the bucket near him.

He said he wanted to do it again and gave it another attempt, this time he did it and got another star for camp.

At the beginning of the day, the celebrities woke up and decided to busy themselves with various chores and exercises.

Olympic gold-medal runner Mo ran around the courtyard to keep fit and asked Shane to join him, Shane said’ ‘Nah, you’re alright.’

Talking in the Telegraph later, Shane laughed: ‘I feel really bad, I’m in here with Mo Farah, Olympic gold runner and he asked me for a run and I said “no, you’re alright mate”.

Shane was also reluctant to help Victoria Derbyshire with emptying the privy, after it had been filled by contestants over the past couple of days.

‘This is my worst nightmare’ said Shane, however Victoria assured him that it was no big deal and he wouldn’t see anything while doing the task.

Bev and Hollie said they were going to do a ‘mass laundry wash’ if anyone wanted anything washing. Jordan said he’d not changed his underpants in three days, Jessica was shocked.

Jordan asked AJ if he’d changed his underwear since arriving at the castle and AJ said he hadn’t – Jordan was pleased it wasn’t just him.

Jordan said: ‘Usually at home I wear them once, in here we’ve just gone feral.’

Later in the day, Hollie and Giovanna were picked to do the treat trial, as they hoped to bag some goodies for their team mates from Kiosk Cledwyn.

Hollie and Giovanna arrived to another room in the castle and laughed as they were greeted by a large painting of all their fellow campmates which had holes where their mouths should be.

Giovanna and Hollie were given ten balls, each with a different quote written on. In order to complete the challenge, they had to successfully match the quote with the correct celebrity by putting the ball into the correct mouth on the portrait.

They had to use a rope to control a platform to lower the ball in the correct mouth. If they matched the wrong quote to the wrong celebrity the portrait would spit the ball out.

Giovanna and Hollie had fun together matching all the quotes and successfully completed the challenge giving them castle coins to go visit the Ye Olde Shoppe and cash in.

They then went to meet Kiosk Cledwyn for the first time this series and placed the castle coins on his counter. They noticed a framed picture of Kiosk Kev on an Australian beach and laughed.

The camp all felt 44% straight away and told Kiosk Cledwyn their answer.

Kiosk Cledwyn immediately shut his shutter in the faces of Giovanna and Hollie who both said ‘Nooooooo’.

Hollie and Giovanna returned to cheers in camp but they had to break the bad news to them that they’d got the answer wrong.

Conversation then turned to Vernon and his experience of surveys from his time presenting Family Fortunes.

With a showbiz career spanning 40 years, he has no doubt built up an impressive roster of A-list pals.

But Shane Richie made the ultimate name drop as he reflected on an unlikely friendship with none other than Hollywood actor Tom Cruise.

The former EastEnders actor, 56, told how he bonded with the Mission Impossible star, 58, over their love of go-karting, with Shane recalling how the pair would ‘race until 5 in the morning.’

The impressive tale came as the celebrities got to know each other, with Shane entertaining the camp with his story about Tom.

Recalling their go-karting fun, he explained: ‘When I was in the West End doing Boogie Nights in 1999, Nicole Kidman and Tom were filming Eyes Wide Shut. And there was a big indoor go-karting track near the BBC and one time I was…

‘I got a phone call from Charlie who used to run it and he said come along on your own and I was going through a real public divorce at the time, I was being followed by the press, so I turned up and went in and he said sit down.

‘I’ve got to tell you Tom and Nicole are here – he said Tom and Nicole, he said he wants to know if he can race against you because you love go-karting.’

Gushing about Tom’s daredevil attitude on the track, Shane enthused: ‘We’d race til 5 in the morning. He was a speed freak. He didn’t care about danger.’

Referring to Tom famously a majority of his own stunts in his action films, Vernon Kay remarked: ‘Hence why he did his own stunts.’

Continuing his story, Shane added: ‘But the thing was all the press had followed me to outside this warehouse, Tom, oh my god, did someone tell them I was here. I said they’re following me.

‘Then he realised in that period of time I was famous. Anyway we got chatting , just a couple of times and go and have drinks, we’d talk about stuff but mostly about go -karting.’

With the campers impressed by Shane’s brush with Hollywood royalty, Vernon, 47, couldn’t resist regaling his own encounter with a movie star, telling of the time he saw Brad Pitt in Marks and Spencer.

He explained: ‘I had my face in the veg and I saw this figure coming to the door and I recognised it straight away and I thought ok wow, that’s’ such and such and I looked and it was, it was Brad Pitt. And he walked in and he carried on walking and you could just see everyone kind of go…’

He continued: ‘And that very afternoon I went to my favourite DIY shop to pick up a few bits and as I’m crossing the road, Kate and William stopped in their Range as I’m crossing the road. What a day.’

Dropping one more A-lister into the mix, he added: ‘Angelina used to go to our Sainsburys.

Finger-lickin’ good: I’m A Celebrity stars were left overjoyed during Tuesday’s episode when they finally received a half-decent meal of quail, following their previous disappointments

Following the success of the trial, the celebrities had their fingers crossed for something somewhat more edible than rabbit or eel.

And their prayers were soon answered as the delivered quail for everyone, with Jordan North remarking that they were like ‘little chickens.’

The Radio 1 DJ, who has so far taken part in every trial, helped AJ Pritchard wash the birds in the courtyard.

After they all chipped into prepare the meal, Victoria remarked: ‘Another massive group effort by everyone, chopping, frying, boiling, spooning – it’s a team.’

Rejoice: The dinner was a celebratory affair following Beverley, Vernon and Jordan’s efforts in the Frights Of The Round Table eating task, in which they bagged an impressive 10/10 stars

The camp soon settled in to tuck into their meal, with everyone especially chuffed that they had been given garlic to add extra flavour to the dish.

The satisfying food made for a happy camp, with the day ending on a high for the ten celebrities.

It came in stark contrast to the previous day, in which they were left baffled after they were given slimy eel for dinner – despite winning nine stars in the trial.

Jordan and Shane did a good job of unlocking a series of safes while snakes slithered all over them in the Viper Vault bushtucker trial on Monday evening.

And despite Jordan’s paralysing fear of snakes, the radio host and the EastEnders actor managed to secure an impressive nine meals for camp with just seconds to spare.

But after gleefully returning to Gwrych Castle, the ten campmates were shocked to discover that their well-deserved dinner would be eel – despite the pair’s success in the trial.

Talking in the Telegraph, Jordan furiously said: ‘I’ve just been in a piggin vault full of snakes and get home to my castle and I’ve got eel. Eating eel – fish snakes, not fish cakes.’

Shane attempted to make light of the bizarre situation and sang ‘jellied eels’ in a cockney voice, while Giovanna Fletcher and Victoria Derbyshire tried to remain positive.

After the meal, Mo Farah said in the Telegraph: ‘The taste of the eel was different, I’m not really a big fan of fish. I took a bite of it and it was slippery… eurgh.’

Victoria described the slithery fish as ‘really chewy’ with ‘lots of bones in it’ – hardly painting an appetising image.

While Jordan continued to rage: ‘9 stars for that, it was minging.’

And it is not the first time the first UK series of I’m A Celebrity has caused outrage with its food choices, after the celebrities were fed rabbit during Sunday’s launch show.

In their first trial, The Gates Of Hell, the ten celebrities successfully moved stars from one side of a makeshift prison to the other, which earned them seven meals for the camp.

When they arrived at Gwrych Castle, Vernon Kay revealed they were to be given rabbit for dinner, with Beverly Callard protesting: ‘I can’t eat bunny.’

‘When they said rabbit for dinner, I was like no, no not for me,’ she added.

It was revealed on Tuesday evening that singer Russell Watson and West End star Ruthie Henshall, both 53, will be joining the likes of Vernon Kay, Shane Richie, Jordan North and Victoria Derbyshire in Wales.

They will make their entrance on the show on Wednesday night’s episode, upping the number of famous faces battling for the King or Queen of the castle title to 12.
