Candice Warner shares anger over toilet tryst portrayal on SAS Australia

Candice Warner shares anger that her toilet tryst with Sonny Bill Williams was ‘the main focus’ of her time on SAS Australia… after saying the humiliation of the 2007 incident led her to a dangerously dark place

Candice Warner has shared her anger that her infamous ‘toilet tryst’ with NRL star Sonny Bill Williams in 2007 was such a talking point on SAS Australia.

On Wednesday, the 35-year-old said she was ‘sad’ that the show’s interrogators continually questioned her on the subject, after revealing earlier in the week that she contemplated suicide when the original story broke 13 years ago.

Speaking on news.com.au’s Not Here To Make Friends podcast, the mum-of-three said: ‘My journey at that time… I was in a position where I almost took my own life.

‘Coming back from that, I think, is a far more important story than the storyline they were (going for).’

While Candice’s questioning was very intrusive, other stars’ pasts – including Nick Cummins’ dumping of two finalists on The Bachelor, and Ali Oetjen’s notorious staircase tryst – were glazed over during interrogations by the DS (directing staff).

‘I was only willing to give a certain amount,’ Candice added. ‘I was still very honest, and still gave a lot more than I feel some others did.

‘It is what it is. It’s my past, and I knew it was going to be brought up. But at the same time, the laptop didn’t come out for everyone.’

Earlier in the week, Candice revealed the incident brought her to a severely dark place, in a heartbreaking interview with The Daily Telegraph.

‘I was almost suicidal. I went through a hell of a lot at such a young age. I got to the point where I literally couldn’t take it anymore,’ she revealed.

Candice was caught in a bathroom hook-up with Sonny Bill, 35, during a night out at the Clovelly Hotel in Sydney back in 2007.

Having been just 22 when the incident occurred, Candice said she had a hard time dealing with the public humiliation and the subsequent fallout.

The former Ironwoman spoke about the incident on SAS Australia, branding it her biggest regret.

‘A long time ago when I was young, I got myself in a compromising position, which I regret,’ she began, shifting uncomfortably in her seat.

Chief instructor Ant Middleton then asked Candice to elaborate on what had happened, but she simply called it ‘a personal situation’.
