Zac Efron is forced into lockdown in South Australia after flying into Adelaide to begin filming his upcoming movie Gold

As South Australia prepares to go into a six-day lockdown following an outbreak of coronavirus, Hollywood star Zac Efron has been caught in the crossfire.

The 33-year-old actor only recently flew into Adelaide from Byron Bay to film the upcoming Stan Original film Gold.

While there’s no word on how the production schedule will be affected, it was announced on Wednesday that South Australia would enter a mandatory lockdown.

The lockdown will come into effect at midnight on Wednesday, and will see all schools, restaurants, cafés, bars, pubs and universities close.

Exercising outside of the home will be banned, and all people will be required to wear face masks while out in public.

‘We continue to face our biggest test to date. We are going hard and we are going early. Time is of the essence,’ South Australian Premier Steven Marshall said in a statement.

Zac jetted into Adelaide earlier this month, the same day it was announced he’d be filming Gold in South Australia.

Since arriving in the city of churches, the High School Musical star has been spotted out and about on several occasions.

On Tuesday, he was pictured with a film crew, and a Stan spokesperson confirmed: ‘Production is scheduled to kick off as planned.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Stan for a comment regarding the status of Gold’s filming schedule. 

Last Wednesday, Zac was spotted at the Crybaby bar in Adelaide’s CBD.

A fan shared a video to social media of the heart-throb enjoying a night out, and captioned it: ‘Just your average Wednesday night hang with Zac Efron.’

Gold will also feature Australian actors Anthony Hayes and Susie Porter. 

According to Inside Film earlier this month, Zac had taken over the lead role from Sam Worthington, who was originally slated to star in the movie.

Gold tells the story of two drifters who stumble across the biggest gold nugget ever found while exploring the outback.
