‘There’s nobody I would rather navigate a pandemic with’: Peter Helliar pays loving tribute to his wife Bridget as the couple celebrate their 17th wedding anniversary

The Project’s Peter Helliar has paid a loving tribute to his wife of 17 years.

On Sunday, the 45-year-old shared a slew of photos of himself and Bridget as they enjoyed a date to celebrate their anniversary.

’17 years married today and this year has probably been the weirdest of them all! Probably!’ He wrote, referencing the pandemic.

He went on to say: ‘Nobody I would rather navigate a pandemic with than my wife, my love, my best friend.’

Peter, who often keeps his personal life out of the limelight, went on to say they would be celebrating in Melbourne.

‘Celebrated by spending the weekend in our beautiful hometown of Melbourne as it bounces back to life,’ he added.

He went on to say he and Bridget looked at street art in the cultural city.

‘Walked down alleyways we had never strolled down before by doing a Street Art trail through. Great fun.’

Bridget offered her own tribute to her husband, mentioning the lockdown.

’17 years of marriage doesn’t usually have significant meaning like 20,’ she began.

‘But going through two lockdowns together and coming out stronger, more creative and more in love really has made this anniversary special.’

Peter and Bridget married in 2001 and share three sons together – Liam, 14, Aidan, 12, and Oscar, eight.

The couple began dating in 1999, with Peter telling news.com.au in 2014 a series of chance meetings brought them together.

‘It was a weird start for us though. I was at Sydney Airport waiting to come home to Melbourne and spotted her in the lounge and thought she was really cute,’ Peter explained.

‘I hoped she would sit next to me on the plane so I could get chatting to her naturally. It didn’t happen.

‘In Melbourne, I saw her parents and grandmother waiting to meet her but I went off and didn’t say anything.’

‘Three days later I was doing a stand-up gig at the Prince Patrick Hotel and saw a friend of mine at the bar who happened to be chatting to the girl from the airport.’

Peter said despite coming off as a bit ‘creepy’ for revealing he had seen her earlier that day, the couple clicked and began dating.
