Strictly’s HRVY admits he wanted to QUIT the show after struggling with the Tango

‘I wasn’t enjoying it’: Strictly’s HRVY admits he wanted to QUIT the show after struggling with the Tango… before pro Janette Manrara helped him escape the ‘negative head space’

Strictly Come Dancing star HRVY has admitted he came close to ‘giving up’ on the show as he struggled with training for the Tango last week.

The singer, 21, confessed he ‘wasn’t enjoying’ the show as he struggled to learn the challenging routine, and credited professional partner Janette Manrara for helping him escape the ‘negative head space.’

This weekend HRVY and Janette will perform a street-inspired Couple’s Choice routine, and the star said he hopes to wow the panel as the dance is much akin to his usual style.

Writing in his column for OK! HRVY confessed taking on a dance such as the Tango proved a huge challenge, and he came dangerously close to calling it quits.

He said: ‘The thing is with Strictly, the challenge isn’t just the dancing, it’s turning yourself into a different character every week. I’ve found it really scary.

‘Janette really had to help me through last week. I was so in my own head about everything. I was so nervous and I wasn’t enjoying it at all.

Praising his professional partner for being such a pillar of support, HRVY added: ‘Being in such a negative headspace just made me want to give up. But Janette was like a counsellor and gave me so much confidence.’

On Saturday HRVY and Janette will dance the Couple’s Choice to Coldplay’s Sky Full Of Stars

HRVY recently revealed that he wants to take co-star Maisie Smith ‘out for dinner’ when Strictly comes to an end, as he is currently concentrating on ‘getting to the final’.

The YouTuber said that although romance is not currently on the cards, he is ‘sure’ he will take the actress out for a meal, The Sun reported.

But he went on to admit that he does need to check that his co-star is, in fact, still ‘single’, as he revealed he is ‘ready’ for love.

He told The Sun: ‘I’m sure at one point, when we can, Maisie and I will go out for dinner. I’m pretty sure she’s single too, I haven’t actually asked, but if we ever go for a meal, I’ll make sure I check first.’

But the singer is putting all of his focus into the dancing contest, explaining that ‘it’s dancing first — then love and fun afterwards’ as he ‘fancies getting to the final’.

While addressing the romance rumours, he also bragged that he is ‘actually amazing on a date’ as he is a ‘good listener’, describing himself as a ‘relationship person’.
