Magic Mike Live Australia is forced to postpone opening amid new COVID-19 cluster on Sydney

Magic Mike Live Australia is forced to cancel its opening night shows amid a new COVID-19 cluster on Sydney’s Northern Beaches

The official launch of Magic Mike Live Australia has been delayed yet again amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Sunday, the tour organisers were forced to cancel the show’s two opening nights in Sydney after a new cluster of the virus spreads.

The postponement of Channing Tatum’s sweat-inducing strip show adds to the already nine months of setbacks for the cast, crew and promoters.

Delayed again: On Sunday, organisers for Magic Mike Live Australia announced the shows across two opening nights would not go on, due to a new cluster of COVID-19 in Sydney

New South Wales has recorded 30 new cases of coronavirus in the past few days, with 28 linked to Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

As a precaution, the state’s Premier Gladys Berejiklian implemented new restrictions, which included a 300 person cap in venues, a one person per four square metre rule and a ban on singing and dancing.

These new rules made the show impossible to go ahead in its current format – which was first postponed as far back as April this year.

An organiser for the performance said the decision was ‘in accordance with the public health order issued by today by the NSW Government’.

‘We regret that we are forced to cancel the opening night performance as of Magic Mike Live today, Sunday, 20 December,’ they said.

‘The order prohibits gatherings over 300, which specifically impacts our two opening night shows and related events.

‘While this is certainly sad for our cast, crew and valued guests, we truly believe that this will all be behind us shortly.’

The organiser went on to explain the team would ‘work to find an appropriate time to make sure all audiences have an opportunity to experience this incredible production of Magic Mike Live’ in coming days.

‘We will be here in Sydney through May and we encourage everyone to please continue to support both Magic Mike Live and everyone in the live entertainment industry in the coming weeks and months,’ they said.

‘Guests impacted by the cancelled performances will be contacted by Ticketmaster in the coming days to reschedule and exchange tickets into future performances.

‘This impacts a large number of patrons, so please bear with us as we work with Ticketmaster to make sure every patron is rescheduled.’

Their decision follows actor Channing Tatum’s titillating dance show finally being previewed by audiences at Sydney’s Entertainment Quarter in Moore Park this week.

While the show officially premiered on December 17, pictures from the preview event show a whole host of stunning performers flaunt their impossibly chiseled physiques on-stage for audiences’ viewing pleasure.

Creator and director Channing Tatum said of the Australian show: ‘The morning after we opened our first production in Vegas four years ago, we all talked about the crazy idea of someday putting Magic Mike Live in a tent and traveling around Australia.

‘The fact that it’s actually happening now is mind-blowing to me.’

Conceived and co-directed by actor Channing in 2016, Magic Mike Live has already been a success in Las Vegas and London.

The Australian version of the show will feature an array of hunks that range from aspiring musicians to former U.S. college football players.

Magic Mike Live Australia guests must be at least 18 years old to attend the shows.
