Coleen and Wayne Rooney’s neighbours stop traveller site being built

Plans to turn land near to Coleen and Wayne Rooney’s £20 million mansion in Cheshire into a traveller site have been blocked by neighbours of the famous family.

The Sun reports that a petition by locals racked up more than 1,000 signatures to stop the proposed site, which was being converted from disused farmland.

The land sits somewhere between former Manchester United player Wes Brown and his Real Housewives Of Cheshire star wife Leanne’s home, and the Rooneys’ property – which features a luxury underground spa and gym, a cinema room, 40 acres of land with stables and a full-size football pitch.

Plans were being led by Michael Maloney, a ‘member of the Irish travelling community’, with the site being one of three in the county.

Cheshire East Council have blocked the plans now, having received the slew of complaints.

Amid the objections were the lack of COVID-19 provisions in the proposals, as well as the site being ‘a hazard to the local community’ and bringing with it ‘a fear of increased crime’.

According to a planning report, ‘the site was occupied by increasing numbers of people and caravans, with the site eventually comprising 13 touring caravans, accommodating between 40 and 50 people’, leading to the council’s court injunction to stop any building work.

Maloney’s design and access statement stated: ‘[We have] an immediate requirement for residential accommodation’. He claimed that his previous home in Essex’s Bishop’s Stortford was set on fire in an arson attack last spring.

This is said to be down to a bitter feud going on between two families – the Maloneys being one of them.

The Maughan family are said to have been left furious with Maloney’s construction and paving business.

In April, his £400,000 estate, Hill Top Yard, was set ablaze, according to The Sun.

Maloney tried to change the Hill Top Yard into a traveller site in 2015, but this was scuppered by the council at the time. It also lost its appeal.

He was then caught up in further drama in 2017, when he demanded he use 10 lampposts on site, claiming they were needed for his children’s safety at night.

He was allowed to keep these erected, despite 150 objections from neighbours.

Meanwhile, Coleen Rooney continues her WAG war against Rebekah Vardy.

But she appeared to set the drama aside as she enjoyed Christmas day with her husband Wayne and their four sons, Kai, 11, Klay, seven, Kit, four, and Cass, two, last month.

The mother-of-four, 34, and her footballer husband, 35, uploaded a snap of the family to Instagram.

Rebekah – who was accused by Coleen, of leaking false stories about her personal life to the media last year – has insisted the new year could ‘potentially’ see them resolve their differences.

The mother-of-five, 38, has vehemently denied the accusations and is suing Wayne Rooney’s spouse for damages for libel in a £1 million High Court case.

On making amends with the former columnist, the I’m A Celebrity star told Hello! magazine: ‘The new year could potentially see a resolution between us. I’m pretty sure the public are sick of reading about it, too.’
